my intensive research about boracay included the gastronomic treats offered by the island. in fact, b and i made a list of much raved about restos and food then we rated them according to number of recommendations. uh-huh..kinda OC actually. but in the end, we never really made use of the list.

on our first dinner, we really intended to try a different cuisine. since we haven't tried greek yet, we settled with cyma coz i found 2 websites featuring the said resto and the food pics look so yummy. zuzuni was highly recommended than cyma but it's still worth a try, i guess.

saganaki

for appetizer, we had their flaming cheese called saganaki. they had a nice and lively way of serving it. first there was the melted cheese in hot plate, they fire it up then shouts of "opa!" fill the air. niiice! it was really fun and unique. i can't say the same for the cheese, though. it's just some melted mozzarella or whatever cheese they used. nothing unusual really.

mixed meat gyros

for our main meal, we had gyros which is quite similar to a shawarma. but this is way way better than the latter. there's something about it's very unique taste that screams greek. love love love it!

moussaka (photo i got somewhere from the net)

our first 2 orders were in relatively small servings and because gyros tasted sooo good, we decided to try more greek food by ordering their national dish, mousakka, which i forgot to take photos of. it looks like the baked macaroni i make so i was excited to have a taste. but i can't help my lips from forming a smirk once the spoonful of moussaka hit my taste buds. ulk. not good. in fact, it's my greatest regret for the night. it made me so full and bloated without feeling satisfied.

so intent on not ending the night with a disappointed note, we had dessert at one of the recommended restos again. lemoni cafe. this cafe can be easily found in the center of d'mall with it's bright interiors.

mango cheesecake cheesecake and avocado shake

we had mango cheesecake, avocado shake and hot lemon mint tea. as you can see with the photo above, the presentation for the cheesecake was a thumbs up and it tastes just as good as it looks. we had such a relaxing moment just sitting in their couch tables, having a good conversation with delectable sweets in our hands.

a beach trip won't be complete w/out some booze and extensive conversation (for me, at least). but our resort was a 20 minute walk from the bars at station 2 so b and i decided to just buy pulutan and have a drink at sur's bar.

we found fresh seafoods on display at one of the many restos lined up on the beach at station 2. we ordered garlic butter grilled prawns and grilled liempo then went back to the resort. it was dark when we got back but we found the staff probably already capping the night off with a tv show. but they were kind enough to respond to our request of lighting one of the gazebos and serving us a few bottles of beer.

booze session

sensible conversation over beer and very delicious pulutan with the sea wind blowing on our faces..yes..this is the life.

lunch the next day was spent at tesebel's, the only resto in ilig-iligan island where we went snorkeling (more about this on the next post).

chili crab garlic butter prawns with honey

our meal for the afternoon was chili crab and garlic butter prawns with honey. the prawns were better than the previous night's probably because it has honey.

view from our table

our table is set within a few steps from the water so it was a very refreshing feeling. our feet were even buried in the sand while we were eating. take note that it's the only resto in the island so even if your order takes about an hour to be served, you have no choice. lunch at tesebel's was a great experience, nonetheless.

banana choco vanilla

about a hundred meters from d'mall is jonah's, boracay's famous fruit shakes. they say you can't leave boracay w/out trying one of their shakes, so we did. the most recommended ones were banana choco vanilla which i had but it was too sweet for me.

we were leaving the next day so we decided to go crazy at dinner and went back to paradiso grill & bar where we bought the previous night's pulutan.

garlic butter grilled prawns chili crab

dinner was almost the same as lunch. 2 small sized chili crabs and garlic butter prawns. see, both b and i are seafood lovers. we're very very thankful that we're not allergic to seafoods like most people so that we can have all the prawns and crabs that we can get our hands on.

grilled liempo

we also think their grilled liempo is one of the best we've tasted so we ordered it again.

only, too bad it was raining that night so we can't dine al fresco. however, it was such a fantastic dinner all the same.

over all, our dining experience in boracay didn't disappoint us. there are actually a lot of food we wanna try but our time there is limited so we have to make the best out of it. the list we made didn't prove to be useful. after all, people have different tastes, different preferences. while it's good to try recommended foods where you might find something to your liking, it's much better to go for what you really want for guaranteed satisfaction.
