sunday nights at home are pasta nights. lately though, we don't do it that often because dad is not so fond of pasta as we all are. during last week's grocery, mom spotted this mc cormick product, pesto pasta sauce. knowing that i love anything with basil and how i liked making spaghetti al pesto but it's just quite a task, she bought one for us to try. one pack is only good for 200 grams of pasta which is not enough meal for 5 people. so for today's pasta night, i made 2 instant dishes: carbonara and pesto.

using the pesto sauce is fairly simple. as instructed in the package, just put the pesto mix in a pan, add 1/4 cup of the pasta sauce and 6 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. heat the mixture then add the cooked pasta and voila, spaghetti al pesto in a flash.

though it looks like pesto, it's a different story once you taste it. as with any instant mixes, there are some setbacks. one, it's lacking in flavor. the delicious crunch of fresh basil and nuts is missing. two, the parmesan cheese seemed to be replaced with salt making it, well you guessed it, too salty that even if i wanted to sprinkle more parmesan for flavor, i feared that i would also get gall bladder stones in an instant.

most instant pastas are blah! but i've tried one brand ages ago of instant mac and cheese and it was surprisingly good..but come to think of it, i can't remember the name anymore..it's definitely not kraft because their's is yucky..but i'll try to remember the brand and i shall share it with you. ;)
