before, filipinos would go to nearby hongkong or singapore to experience the underwater world without actually going under the water. but now, just behind quirino grandstand in luneta is manila's very own oceanarium. being such a fish lover that my b is, we went there last march just days after it's soft opening.
as with any new establishment like this, i heard that the place is chaotic during weekends. and in order to accommodate all visitors, they have to limit a person's stay to an hour or so. but for someone like my b, an hour is not enough so we dismissed our staff early on a friday for our ocean park adventure. there wasn't quite a lot of people that time yet so we were able to enjoy the fishies for more than 2 hours.

are these worms?
transparent eggs of bamboo shark
isn't it great that we have world-class attractions like this? the place is quite huge but it's not yet completely finished as they are still building a hotel and mall facility within it.
though i am happy for having this ocean park, somehow the environmentalist in me is a bit concerned. those fishes should be in their natural habitat and not trapped in a giant aquarium. live corals are part of the underwater ecosystem but i'm afraid i've only seen fake corals inside those aquariums. anyway, i just hope that the management and staff of ocean park is taking care of them very well.
manila ocean park is open daily from 10am-9pm and ticket price is 400 for adult, 350 for children. i suggest you go there on a weekday if you can to avoid a large crowd. but if you really want to go on a weekend, why not try their program called "sleeping with the fishes" where guests can stay overnight from 630pm to 7am the next day. it will be held every friday for the whole month of may. the rates are 1000 for adult, 750 for children and includes dinner, midnight snack and breakfast. read on this inquirer article for more information.
