as part of our being christians, holy week is being celebrated to commemorate the passion of christ. for some, the long weekend is an opportunity to escape the city and go to the beach or just spend a relaxing time at home. but others, specially the elders (my grandma in particular) wince at the thought that people would rather take a vacay during this time than participate in the religious activities. for me, it doesn't really matter whatever way people choose to spend the holy week. God created us as rational beings which allows us to have a choice. i don't think He would punish us if we didn't do the traditions passed down to us by our ancestors. as long as people remain good, i guess it's alright.
our family is one of those who regularly follow the church activities every holy week. in fact, we just got home from the easter vigil. though i must admit that this year, i was a bit hesitant to join the family coz i need to finish more tasks for the business and secondly, the weather's so damn hot. the season is all about sacrifice so i did participate. and i'm so glad i did because there's a light and renewed feeling once you put your heart to it.
today's easter already. everytime this day comes, i never fail to reminisce on the easter activities i had as a kid. there were those times when my mom organized easter egg hunts at home. she bought these colorful plastic eggs that can be opened in half. inside the eggs were pieces of papers with numbers that correspond to a prize. all eggs have prizes so the more eggs we find, the more prizes we have. then there was also this one at our village chapel where they used real eggs which we, the neighborhood kids, painted ourselves. those were hidden in our chapel's grounds and the top 3 kids who has the most eggs win. i remember also winning on this. yeah, i'm a good egg hunter. heeh.
anyway, happy easter y'all. hope you and your family have a great one. :)
